Categorising a Project

There exist three categories of projects undertaken within the Faculty that require different levels of rigour. The metrics used are a guideline:

Low Effort

Meaning that the duration, outcome or cost is too low to warrant any mandatory planning activities. It is likely that the effort in creating a Project Plan is not warranted. Staff may elect to use some of the templates, however only where they deem it would be helpful. These projects are not issued a Project ID.

Simple

A project that requires the use of a Project Brief, Project Plan and a Project Signoff. It is defined as a project that has:

  • A budget between $10,000 and $50,000;
  • Requires 50 to 500 person hours effort;
  • Has no significant risks.

Complex

A project that requires the use of a more rigorous methodology. It is defined as a project that has:

  • A budget greater than $50,000; or
  • Requires more than 500 person hours effort; or
  • Presents a great risk to FSMed if inappropriately managed (as confirmed by the Project Sponsor).
